about

After years collaborating with many leading international improvisers like Taylor Ho Bynum, John Hébert, Gerald Cleaver, Paal Nilssen-Love, Kent Kessler or Dennis Gonzalez, saxophonist Rodrigo Amado decided it was time to form a true working band, assembling his Motion Trio with musicians Miguel Mira and Gabriel Ferrandini. Their first release (Motion Trio, European Echoes, 2009) was considered a breakthrough for portuguese jazz, receiving enthusiastic reactions by critics worldwide.

Playing extensively in clubs and jazz festivals all over the country, Motion Trio gained a reputation for vibrant live sets, being considered today one of the most important units in Portuguese jazz. “Burning Live at Jazz ao Centro” captures one of those moments and documents the trio’s first meeting with trombone great Jeb Bishop.
